A 7-YEAR-OLD from Pembroke Dock has raised £480 for flood victims after seeing the devastation caused by this winter’s storms on the news.

Ben Evans, a year two pupil at St Mary’s Roman Catholic School, organised a raffle in aid of flood victims specifically in Wales.

Teachers at the school encouraged Ben to write a letter which he photocopied 120 times and sent home to parents.

Raffle prizes were donated by Valero, Main Port Engineering, MRC Transmark (Dragon), Simon Safety and Lifting Centre, and RSD recruitment agency. Pembroke Male Voice Choir donated more than £100.

Proud mum Sabrina Evans said: “Ben is an inspiration to other children. I’m one very proud parent.”

She added: “Ben had been watching the news about the floods. He got a bit upset about it and I told him everything would be ok, that it would take time but people would get it all back together.

“He decided he would go into school and ask his teachers about what he could do to help.

“I’m immensely proud. It’s quite humbling to know that your son, who’s only seven, is thinking about others so much at such a young age. You don’t expect a seven-year-old to come up with such a heartfelt thing.”

Plans are being made for the cheque to be presented to charity shortly.
