A PEMBROKEHIRE artist has been helping children add some colour to their classroom.

Pupils from Golden Grove School’s red class have been working on a classroom mural with the artist, Pauline Le Britton.

Taking inspiration from the Pembroke primary school’s woodland area, pupils learned about the environment and why it is important to preserve it, as well as putting their artistic talents to good use.

“As Golden Grove has its own special wood I thought it would be a good idea just to look around us,” said Pauline.

“The children looked at photos of the local birds and mammals which are living in the woods right under their noses and feet, and made drawings from these.

“We also looked at trees and decided to think about animals above and below. I liked the idea of creating a cross section of the wood to explore the activity underground in the burrows.”

Using an old overhead projector, Pauline plotted the children’s drawings into a woodland scene.

“They were so excited to see their work joined together to form a large mural and had a fantastic time working together to paint in their woodland scene,” she said.

“Looking back on the original drawing and then seeing the finished piece was a massive achievement for them. I had a fantastic time working with the class.”
