PEMBROKE School choir and orchestra has been given a £1,000 boost to help pay for a trip to Belgium this summer.

Thirty-four pupils are going to Bruges from July 10 to 13 with the help of the Loyal Welsh Lodge of Freemasons.

Worshipful master of the lodge Jonathan James recently presented a cheque to Pembroke School head of music Elaine Page to help with travel costs.

Orchestra and choir members will take part in three concerts, including one at a glass concert hall in in the city.

Pupils performed for the Loyal Welsh Lodge of Freemasons at Christmas time.

"I'm really grateful that there's a charity which is willing to give funding for children who otherwise might not be able to afford to go on the trip," Ms Page said.

"It's a great opportunity for people who may not have been abroad before to experience a European city.

"The children will not only benefit from the education side of the trip but they'll also have a chance to enjoy themselves too."
