A PLANNING application for a 42m-tall wind turbine at Lammaston Farm, Watery Lane, Pembroke, has caused concerns among Pembroke town councillors.

An application for the 100KW wind turbine has been submitted to Pembrokeshire County Council by David John.

At this month’s (April) meeting, seven members voted in favour of objecting to the application. There were four abstentions.

Cllr Jonathan Nutting said: “I’m vehemently against this if it’s going to be in sight of the town.

“We are in a natural bowl here. We could have turbines all around the outside.

“We are supposed to be in a natural historical space which is not what Pembroke will be with wind turbines all around the outside.

“Once we allow one it opens the flood gates to others. It’s going to be very noticeable on our sight line.”

Other members agreed. Cllr Rose Blackburn, who proposed objecting to the application, added: “I’m very against it because of the visual impact it would have. Wind turbines are only 30% efficient anyway.”

Cllr Wyn Jenkins called for more information. “What you are fighting of course are the green bodies,” he said. “We can turn around and say no to it but I would like to know more about it.”

Cllr Blackburn’s proposal was seconded by Cllr Melanie Phillips. Members voted in favour of objecting to the application because of the visual impact the wind turbine would have on the town and the potential for “opening the flood gates” to other applications.

Cllr Pearl Llewellyn added: “This will probably go before the [county council’s] planning committee. It would be a good idea for someone from the town council to go up there to speak about why we are not supporting this application.” Members agreed this was a good idea.
