GOLDEN Grove pupils ended the school term on a high after winning the Pembrokeshire round of a drama competition organised by the Welsh Books Council.
Year five pupils from the Pembroke primary wowed judges with an eight-minute drama based on ‘Carrie’s War’ by Nina Bowden.
Their polished performance was a tribute to their hard work and that of Chloe Wheeler and Johnny Lock, of the JC Theatre Company, who have been working with pupils.
Year six pupils gave a performance based on ‘Dark Tales from the Woods’ by Daniel Norden.
The pupils will compete at the national finals at Brecon in June. Headteacher Les Johnston was full of praise for the efforts of the children and wished them all the very best for the national competition.
Elsewhere in the school, children have been busy designing and making a love spoon have which was presented to the headteacher at a special assembly.
The spoon’s design marks respect and it will be awarded annually to the pupils judged to have shown or earned the greatest level of respect in the school.
The assembly was attended by Pembroke mayor Keith Nicholas, school governor Aiden Brinn and Kerry Thomas, of the Love Spoon Workshop near Broadmoor.
Accepting the love spoon, Mr Johnston stressed the importance of showing respect in all walks of life and thanked the pupils for all of their work.
