VOLUNTEERS in Pembroke Dock have raised more than £1,000 for Diabetes UK’s Big Collection.

The nationwide event took place across 328 Tesco stores and marked the end of Diabetes Week, taking place on June 13, 14 and 15. A total of 3,000 people gave up their time to collect the donations.

In Pembroke Dock, enthusiastic volunteers joined together from across the community to raise awareness of the condition that affects one in seven people.

The money raised will help support the 3.2 million people living with diabetes in the UK, and also help find the 630,000 who remain undiagnosed.

Diabetes UK Cymru Director Dai Williams said: “We are delighted that so many people from the community came together to support the Big Collection in and around Pembroke Dock.

“We’d like to thank the volunteers for getting into the fundraising spirit and making the weekend so enjoyable and we’re grateful to the Tesco customers for their kind donations.”

Maureen Worcester, Team Leader for the collection at Pembroke Dock said: “I would personally like to thank all of the volunteers who gave up their time to help collect donations over the weekend.”

“We had a fun weekend and the volunteers did a great job spreading some cheer in store.”

Organised as part of a major National Charity Partnership between Tesco and Diabetes UK, the weekend set out to support the millions of people who have to live with diabetes every day; help hundreds of thousands of people take action to reduce their risk of Type 2 diabetes; and fund investment into ground-breaking research for a Type 1 vaccine.
