A CHOCOLATE factory and an encounter with a Cistercian monk were the order of the day as Pembroke pupils descended on Caldey Island.

Class six pupils from Golden Grove School learned all about the area’s history as well as the different businesses set up by the island’s brotherhood of Cistercian Monks.

Pupils were particularly taken with the chocolate factory where they were greeted by Frank Miller who runs the operation.

They also visited the nearby church of St Illtud, home to the famous Ogham Stone.

At Abbots’s Chapel pupils observed and took part in a Sixth Hour prayer service and visited Priory Beach before heading back to the mainland.
