A LARGE crowd of parents and families turned out in support of Golden Grove School, Pembroke, which held its annual foundation phase pupils’ sports day recently.

The rain held off and the sports field was soon filled with pupils and spectators enjoying the various competitions.

The running races were very competitive with pupils displaying some fine skills. First, second and third-placed finishers were awarded stickers for their efforts.

The much-loved sack race was a scene of tumbles and flying leaps but the pupils took it all in their stride.

There were some serious faces in the egg and spoon face, where concentration was the name of the game. Many an egg fell on to the floor but were quickly retrieved by competitors.

The boys and girls also enjoyed an amusing one-legged welly race. The grand finale was an obstacle race which saw pupils negotiate hoops and other challenges on their way to the finishing line.

Everybody enjoyed a great couple of hours of fun, made even better by a wonderfully supportive crowd.

Headteacher Les Johnson said: “This is always a popular event, I am grateful to the parents for their enthusiastic support.”
