A TWIN town shooting competition held at Pembroke Dock Shooting Club recently went with a bang.

The competition was part of a packed schedule of events arranged for the Fanfarenzug Stadt Band and the Schutzencorp (shooting club members) from Bergen, Lower Saxony, Germany.

ON Saturday, July 19, alongside the Welsh Guards, the German visitors took part in one of the biggest military parades Pembroke Dock has ever seen.

The Schutzencorp then went to St Patrick’s Community Hall, Pennar, for an afternoon of friendly competition organised by Pembroke town councillor David Boswell.

Trophies were awarded to the best shot on each team, with Alan Gibby coming out on top for the home side on 94 out of 100.

Cllr David Boswell, who, on 68, had the best score of any of the town councillors taking part, said: “It’s important to keep the twinning going.

“The Germans thoroughly enjoyed themselves, they couldn’t thank us enough.

“When we go out there they treat us like gold and they think it’s a fantastic idea to keep this shooting competition going between the two towns. We’re looking forward to the next one now.”

On Saturday evening there was a hog roast and disco at the Pembrokeshire Adventure Centre followed by a Milford Haven Waterway river cruise on the Sunday.

On Sunday (July 20) afternoon the Fanfarenzug Stadt Band and members of the Schutencorp (Shooting Club) paraded along Pembroke Main Street to the Castle for a performance.

Pembroke and Pembroke Dock Joint Twinning and Tourism Committee chairman Cllr Aden Brinn said the weekend was a great success and very enjoyable.

“My grateful thanks to the townspeople of both Pembroke Dock and Pembroke for supporting these events,” he added.
