CAREW Castle boasts a fascinating 2,000 year history, having been home to princesses, dukes and knights since the 11th century; and now there is a new name in charge of the popular visitor attraction.

Daisy Hughes recently took over as manager of Carew Castle and Tidal Mill, having moved back to Pembrokeshire following a 10 year spell working at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire.

Originally from Manorbier, Daisy has almost 20 years of experience working at historical buildings, having also previously been a seasonal visitor centre assistant at Manorbier Castle.

Daisy said: “I’m delighted to have been given the opportunity to manage a site with such a fascinating history. I hope my past experiences will enable me to maintain and develop all that Carew Castle has to offer and to encourage more people to visit this wonderful place.

“The Carew Castle site embodies the National Park’s diverse appeal, demonstrating its rich cultural and built history, its wonderful wildlife as well as providing opportunities for people to get out, get active and enjoy this beautiful landscape.”

Major renovation works were completed at Carew Castle last year, including reinstatement of the Lesser Hall roof, a new visitor centre and shop, as well as car park enhancements.

National Park Authority Chairman Councillor Mike James added: “It’s a pleasure to welcome Daisy back to Pembrokeshire. She brings with her a great deal of knowledge and skill and we are sure she will bring continued success to Carew Castle.”

Although the summer holidays may be coming to an end, there are still exciting events planned at Carew Castle and the site is open 10am-5pm every day.
