A NEW book aimed at encouraging artists to embrace the winter months has just been published by a Pembroke-born artist and author.

David Bellamy’s Winter Landscapes in Watercolour is aimed at getting artists outside to paint and sketch landscapes in the cooler months.

David said: “Many landscape artists look on winter as a dead time of the year when the weather is cold and miserable, but my aim with the book is to show that not only are many winter days an absolute joy to be out sketching, but that you can see many more fascinating subjects at this time of year.”

He added: “Although the book is illustrated with scenes from all over Britain, as always I endeavour to include as many of my native Pembrokeshire as possible, and where I do much of my painting.”

David grew up in Llanddewi Velfrey and went to Narberth Grammar School.

“It was only when I left Pembrokeshire as an adult that I really began to appreciate the stunning beauty of its coastline,” he said.

He has published 18 books and specialises in painting mountain and wild coastal scenes. His fascination with the moods of nature in the wild places has taken him all over the world from the Arctic to the Himalayas.

David has just returned to Pembrokeshire after running a multi-national painting holiday in Austria, and, along with his wife Jenny, will be taking a painting course at Warpool Court Hotel in St Davids.

David said: “Of all the venues where I run courses, it's my favourite.”
