VISITORS to Lamphey Bishop’s Palace recently witnessed the thrilling spectacle of gunpowder and hand-to-hand combat during an English Civil War battle re-enactment.
Re-enactment group the Sealed Knot staged scenes from a local part of the Seventeenth Century war, which pitted supporters of parliament against those of the monarchy.
The re-enactment covered an event in 1642, when Lamphey Palace provided supplies to the Parliamentary army in Pembroke.
The Royalist army, led by Captain Crowe, stormed Lamphey and raided the supplies.
Lead Custodian at Lamphey Bishop’s Palace Gaynor Smith said: “It is great to be able to work in partnership with other organisations like the Sealed Knot; it offers the visitor a special experience; an opportunity to see a different part of Pembrokeshire.”
