PEMBROKE Dock’s mayor is urging the town to get behind a monthly street clean, held to brighten up the town and make it a place for tourists to visit.

Mayor Peter Kraus has been organising monthly since he was deputy mayor, and has issued a plea for more volunteers after a disappointing fifth street clean last Wednesday, August 26.

The monthly street cleans meet up at the town’s Gordon Street car park next to the ASDA store.

Last month saw a strong support, boosted by staff from the London Road McDonalds fast food restaurant.

Speaking last Wednesday, Cllr Kraus said: “Today we had our fifth street clean in Pembroke Dock this year, the weather was great but turnout was very poor; there was only the good old ‘regulars’.

“We still did our bit to help, and that we sure did.

“There are so many areas that still need doing, so we have to wait until next month, unless I get some spare time. I want to say a massive thank-you for those who turned up.

“I want Pembroke Dock to be a town which everyone can be proud of and encourage lots of tourists to visit us, we have so much to offer and that is why we have to clean up our act.

“There is so much maritime history on our doorstep; now we have a fantastic maritime trail for everyone to visit, so there is no excuse.

“Pembroke Dock was on the map last year when the Queen came, and everything was perfect, that has to stay the same for our tourists.

“We have so many people travelling to and from Ireland, which also includes foreign visitors from many countries. It would be fantastic if they all stopped for a while and didn't just come off the ferry and then leave straight away.”
