PEMBROKE’S Golden Grove School is urging people to report any signs of trespassers after vandals struck during the recent holidays.

School Liaison Officer David Perry discovered the damage during a “sweep-up” of the school at the start of the holidays, finding the remains of five wrecked picnic benches.

“Half a dozen brightly-coloured picnic tables were smashed to smithereens and then strewn over the grounds and the soft play area used by the Foundation Phase pupils.

“A valuable resource for the school and the children has been taken away from us.”

He said the act of vandalism would have been clearly visible from the road.

“Subsequent checks revealed our bird hide in the woods, a two year project I’ve been directly involved in, had damage caused by the panels being ripped off.

“Slowly but surely we were building this hide; it’s distressing for the school and the community.

The vandals also targeted a sign board celebrating work by the pupils, and trees in the schools woodland suffered damage.

Anti-social behaviour had hit Golden Grove a few weeks before, with fires lit in the woods.

Mr Perry said support from the local community had been heart-warming following a school Facebook posting.

“We’ve been very heartened to have offers of help from several sources in the community; we will be pursing these offers of help.

“If anybody’s got any information that would lead to their apprehension, tell the police or ring Crimestoppers; let us know, let the PCSOs know.

“If anybody sees anybody in our grounds let the police know. This is your school; it’s your community school, your pupils, your children. Please just keep an eye out over what might be going on.”

Pembroke Dock police are appealing for information on 101.
