PUPILS from Pembroke’s Golden Grove School celebrated Harvest Festival at the town’s St Mary’s Church recently.

In the morning the pupils from The Foundation Phase walked up from school to the church which had been beautifully decorated by staff members Mrs Mason and Miss Watton.

With Harvest songs and readings the children had an enjoyable service in which they gave thanks for the food they eat.

In the afternoon it was the turn of the pupils from Key Stage 2. Head Teacher Andy Williams started off with a food quiz based on a plentiful array of squashes, fruits and roots. Some of the items were readily identified but one item required a quick visit to Wisebuys of Pembroke for a confirmation of name.

Zach from Class 9 correctly named it as a Sharon Fruit and was given a Kiwi (which he also correctly identified) as a prize.

A group of pupils presented a menu they had been asked to create, and others from the KS2 classes sang and performed various pieces to celebrate Harvest.

Mr Williams said: “We are grateful to St Mary’s Church for making it available for our services which were a great success.”

Over the past weeks the school has been making a collection of food, this will be donated to PATCH who provide vital support to people in need.

In other school news, Golden Grove pupils have also been learning all about Operation Pied Piper, the greatest evacuation of children in British history, recently, hearing about the many World War Two evacuees.
