A PEMBROKE Dock family had a great start to Christmas thanks to the Princes Gate Trust and Tesco Pembroke Dock, netting £730 worth of goodies.

The Laugharne family had a chance to go ‘wild in the aisles’ at the London Road store for a 15 minute two trolley dash.

They were selected as a family which had faced adversity in 2015, with the ‘dash’ a chance to make their Christmas less troubled.

Graham Laugharne and his children Joseph, 14; Jacob, 10; and Jenna, 9, tragically lost their wife and mum Lynsey.

The first Christmas without Mum was undoubtedly difficult, but, as was the intention of the Princes Gate Trust, might be slightly softened by the eradication of financial worries over the period.

The smiles on their faces spoke volumes on how uplifting the experience was - a brief diversion from their loss.

The Laugharne family were joined in their dash by Pembroke Dock Mayor Peter Kraus.

Cllr Kraus said: “It was very, very emotional; they were a family that I suggested needed to be looked after for Christmas; originally there were going to be two or three families but it was such a special case they decided to just have the one.

“They were so, so grateful, I was virtually in tears.

“The most emotional time for me - going around with them - I had was when Jenna picked up a lot of chocolates and then put them in the PATCH charity trolley.”

Present on the day was Chair of Trustees from the Princes Gate Trust Samantha Atkinson.

“It was an extremely humbling day from start to finish. We were all conscious of how easily unforeseen life events might propel any of us into stark economic times overnight and so to be able to help these families at Christmas was just a joy.”
