PEMBROKE Dock Mayor Peter Kraus has praised the support of volunteers for the town’s most recent litter pick.

“We all got soaked, but like loyal volunteers we braved it, there were 17 of us altogether and, talk about the A Team, we sure did loads and got down to it,” said Cllr Kraus. “20 bags were collected altogether and most of those were from Gashouse Lane and along the public path behind the Welshman's Arms; this seems to be a blackspot in our town; what is the matter with people these days? Have they no respect? We are doing our very best to get our lovely town litter-free to attract tourism and also for the public to enjoy the scenery, something has to be done.

The litter pickers have been supported locally by Tesco, McDonald's and Asda, with London Road’s Tesco the meeting place for the January effort.

The next litter pick, on February 25, takes place at Tesco, meeting at the main entrance.

“We hope to have the schools involved in this one, especially the community school in Bush Street and the Pennar Community School,” said Cllr Kraus. “It is so important to teach children about dropping litter at a young age so that they could possibly teach some of the parents not to drop litter anywhere, and the danger it can be to animals.”
