PEMBROKE Dock Samba band Samba Doc is offering training sessions for youngsters later this month.

In the last eight years Samba Doc has gone from strength-to-strength, expanding in experience and members.

One of the many performances by Samba Doc in 2015 was an invitation to Cardiff to play at the re-opening of Nando’s in the Brewery Quarter, entertaining crowds of onlookers drawn to the music from the streets, resulting in a booking to lead the Pride Cymru parade in August.

Meeting every Thursday night to rehearse in St Teilo’s Chuch Hall, Pembroke Dock, the band ran its annual course for beginners in Autumn 2015, resulting in a record number of new members.

The band has just completed a weekend residential course where it benefited from the tutorage of a professional teacher, adding new arrangements and new instrument knowledge to their repertoire.

Anyone aged 16 and over is welcome to pop into a practice session between 7pm and 9pm to learn more about joining the band.

Following on from the success of annual workshops in Pennar School in Pembrokeshire and Johnstown school in Carmarthenshire, the band is now entering a programme of junior tuition.

The band will start its training sessions for juniors on Wednesday 24 February, giving youngsters from 11-15 the opportunity to join in the fun and reap the benefits of playing Samba music.

Sessions will run from 6-8pm each week at St Teilo’s Church Hall.
