PUPILS and staff at Pembroke’s Golden Grove School-Ysgol Gelli Aur exchanged their names for book titles and story characters as they celebrated World Book Day in style.

The school assembly was packed with characters from books old and new. Goldilocks vied with Darth Vader, while Harry Potter and his friend were well represented.

Characters from books by a very wide range of authors, such as Roald Dahl, David Walliams and Charles Dickens were amongst the pupils in the hall. As a part of the World Book Day celebration the school held a very well attended book fair in the school hall.

Celebrating World Book Day were 10 pupils who had taken part in the Premier League Reading Stars event recently. The pupils’ efforts were rewarded by meeting Swansea City Football Club’s Alan Curtis.

Head Teacher Andy Williams said: “Books play a vital role in developing literacy skills. We have very many avid readers in school and our library is extensively used. The pupils and parents are to be congratulated for the efforts made to make the day such a success.”
