MEMBERS of Pennar Community Hall were VIPs for the day on Saturday, August 20, at the opening of Pembroke Dock’s new budget retailer B&M.

B&M, based on the London Road site previously occupied by B&Q, was greeted by crowds of bargain hunters when it opened its doors at 9am.

Pennar Community Hall members took centre stage as they officially unveiled the brand new B&M store alongside Pembroke Dock Deputy Mayor Jane McNaughton.

In addition to cutting the ribbon at the new store, the representatives also received £250 worth of B&M vouchers as a thank you for taking part.

Since opening its doors the store has set off to a flying start with customers piling in to quench their thirst for bargains.

They could also enter the B&M Big Prize Bonanza, a free game show that took place on the day from 9am. The lucky winners walked away with some fantastic prizes, including a Russell Hobbs Vacuum Cleaner, B&M vouchers, Cadbury’s Chocolates and much more.

There was also a facepainter in store on the day to transform customers into their favourite super heroes, animals or characters.

The former B&Q’ store underwent a comprehensive internal and external refurbishment programme and created more than 80 new jobs for local people.

The store manager, Simon Rosser, said: “We’re feeling really positive about the creation of new jobs for local people and feedback on the new store has been great so far.”

He added: “The team from Pennar Community Hall really stood out for us as they go the extra mile for the community, we wanted to give them some VIP treatment as a thank you for all the hard work they do.

“We hope that our donation can help them to continue the great work they do.”
