IT was a recent weekend of sporting success for the Stackpole Estate as more than 150 visitors took part in the first-ever Barafundle Bay Trailathlon on October 9.

The inaugural event, hosted by the National Trust in partnership with Pembroke Leisure Centre, saw participants of all ages and abilities, run, make a splash and get muddy.

Part of the charity’s campaign to encourage more people to get active in the great outdoors, the Trailathlon included a run across coast and countryside terrain from Stackpole Quay, a woodland obstacle course and a sea splash along Barafundle Bay.

Speaking about the adrenaline-fuelled event, Rhian Sula, Stackpole’s visitor experience and community officer, said: “We’re thrilled so many visitors joined us for the very first Barafundle Bay Trailathlon – it really was fantastic to see everyone having fun and enjoying the inspirational landscape.

“It’s through the support of the public, volunteers and partner organisations that we’re able to host events like the Trailathlon and continue our vital conservation work on the Stackpole Estate – every visit helps us to care for this special place for the enjoyment of everyone.”

Due to overwhelming demand, the Barafundle Bay Trailathlon will return in 2017.
