Pembrokeshire County Council's former Development Centre at London Road, Pembroke Dock has been sold for just over £150,000.

The vacant development centre opposite the Pembroke Dock retail Park comprises of 745m sq of accommodation, based in an old school building, set in 0.7 acres of land.

It has training rooms, two IT suites, offices a library, kitchen and dining rooms and was recently used as a council training and development centre.

The property was originally put on the market in 2014 with an asking price of £200,000.

Outline plans to demolish it and replace it with a Pets at Home retail store were submitted to the council last month by Dylan Jones of Esterkin Developments Pembroke Ltd.

It seeks a change of use as well as demolishing the existing building, and creating a 827m sq store, together with 53 car parking spaces and ten cycle spaces, as well as creating an access on to London Road.

The application states the store is expected to make a turnover of £1.7m a year.

"The proposed store will therefore help to meet the demand for a Pets at Home store in the locality and help to reduce the need to travel further afield.," it says.

"This would generate economic and environmental benefits in terms of job creation and bring a redundant site within the town into beneficial use."

On Monday cabinet noted that Esterkin Developments, Pembroke Dock Ltd bought the site for £150,750 in August.

The report to cabinet said that more money could be made from the site if planning was obtained.
