IT has been a busy time recently for Pembroke’s Golden Grove School-Ysgol Gelli Aur.

The school celebrated a first by winning the Gerald Codd Memorial Cup for Cross Country Running. Mr Huw Morgan of Pembrokeshire Harriers came to the school to present the trophy to winning team of pupils.

The school football and netball teams have also been busy

The boy’s football were runners up the prestigious Swansea City Tournament recently, a hard fought game against Tenby VC School produced some excellent footie.

The girls put in an excellent performance without conceding a single goal. In Netball the team excelled by winning the South Pembrokeshire round of the Urdd Tournament, for the record they scored a massive 25 goals without conceding a single goal.

The school was recently a sea of spots as pupils dressed up to support The Children In Need fundraising event. A variety of events were held in the school.

The pupils raised over £500 and their efforts were rewarded with a mention on the BBC Wales event newsfeed.

The school choir have been tuning up for the recording of a Christmas CD.

The choir sang Go Tell It On The Mountain, which will be featured on Radio Pembrokeshire. The choir were delighted to welcome Jim Hughes to the school to record their contribution to the festive output from the local radio station.

Remembrance Sunday saw the school ambassadors lay a wreath in Pembroke after taking part in the annual service at the local war memorial.

Head Teacher Andy Williams said: “It’s been an exciting period for the pupils. They have been wonderful representatives for the school and the wider community.

“We are looking forward to further whole school family events over the next few week which includes the second Jingle Jog in Pembroke and a carol service by the school Christmas Tree.”
