THERE’S been plenty going on in Pembroke Dock Community School recently.

Sarah Hooke, Professional Advisor for Unicef UK in Wales, visited the school as part of an assessment of the Rights Respecting Schools practice taking place in the school.

Sarah was very impressed by the ethos of the school and how the rights of the child underpins all aspects of school life. The feedback the school received was extremely positive and reflected the hard work that had been put in by the staff Mrs Clarke and Mrs Scott and the Rights Respecting Schools pupil voice group.

The school were informed that the work we were doing meant that we achieved Level 1 status immediately and would be put forward to achieve Level 2 status. We will find out the verdict of this assessment very soon.

Pupils from Year 3 and 4 were recently invited to Ysgol Gelli Aur to take part in a series of rugby matches. The team did extremely well, winning two games and drawing one. Mason, of Year 4, had a fantastic few games, scoring 9 tries in all - a great achievement.

There were also notable performances from Faith and Alex, making their rugby debuts, as well as Harrison and Rhys. Well done everyone and a big thanks to Ysgol Gelli Aur for their kind invitation and hosting of the matches.

In other school news, every month, on the final Friday, the school holds an assembly to celebrate the achievements of pupils. Each teacher nominates a child from their class who has stood out or done something special during that month.
