A PEMBROKE DOCK woman is taking part in a marathon walk with a difference to raise funds for a breast cancer charity.

Lydia Thomas, 26, from Bush Camp, is taking part in the 2017 MoonWalk in London on May 13, a marathon-length walk organised by the Walk the Walk cancer charity.

The event, celebrating its 20th year, is unusual as those taking part wear a bra on show to all.

Walk the Walk came into being 1996 when just 13 women Power Walked the New York City Marathon in their bras to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.

Lydia is taking part in the fundraiser in memory of her late father George, a former Silcox bus driver, who lost his life to cancer.

Lydia said: “This is a huge challenge for me, going from no fitness to signing up. Yes I will wear my bra around the course as I want to show anyone can do it.”

She added: “It’s a 26.2 mile walk around London at night for breast cancer care for Walk the Walk. I want to go as a challenge and I lost my dad, George Thomas four-and-a-half years ago to another form of cancer.

“I wanted to get fit and healthy, and, after losing my dad, I wanted something to spur me on.”

Lydia, who has been hitting the treadmill at Pembroke leisure centre, also plans to take part in the Cardiff half-marathon.

She is hoping to raise funds through sponsor forms, in addition to a fundraising web page already set up at moonwalklondon2017.everydayhero.com/uk/lydz
