A SAGESTON-BASED group catering for the over-50s traveller has donated £1,000 to Withybush Hospital’s new chemo day unit appeal.

Sue and John Shaw of the Happy Band of Travellers recently attended the open day at Withybush Hospital’s new Chemo Day Unit and presented the cheque, raised from the various trips and holidays that Sue organised last year.

"Unfortunately I was not able to organise so many holidays last year as I myself had to undergo six months of chemotherapy at the unit, but all the doctors and nursing staff and care support workers look after their patients so wonderfully well and I felt that the money raised from our trips last year should go to the new CDU appeal,” said Sue.

“I put it to my 'Happy Band of Travellers' who wholeheartedly agreed. The sum raised was by having raffles, lottery bonus ball number and donations and I would like to thank everyone who has supported us in raising this amount.

"Everyone is affected in some way or another with cancer, either by having it themselves or knowing a family member or friend, and the new unit is truly wonderful and will be a great help not only to the doctors and nursing staff but to the patients who have to attend for their various treatments.”

Sue is now planning holidays and trips for the coming year.

She hopes to have trips to the Italian lakes by coach and air, flying from Cardiff in July, as well as Cyprus in November, and to Alvaston Hall in Cheshire in January 2018.

"My 'Happy Band of Travellers' are a lovely group of people aged 50-plus and are a very friendly bunch and newcomers are always welcome," said Sue.
