FORMER pupils and a member of staff from Pembroke Dock’s Llanion CP School recently held a get-together at the The Cove, Pembroke Dock.

The Former Llanion CP School in London Road, later a community centre, was sold last year for £150,000 by the county council to Esterkin Developments Pembroke Ltd, who plans to replace it with a Pets at Home retail store.

It is now expected to be built some time in 2017.

Eight former pupils, who all left between 1968 and 1970, and a former teacher met up recently.

Steve Culliford, one of the former pupils, said: “This small reunion was arranged via Facebook with a view to organising a larger event later in the year for all ex-pupils and staff. Most of us have not seen each other for over 40yrs.

“We were saddened to hear that the old school has been sold by the local council and that there are plans for it to be demolished with a characterless retail unit taking its place. Externally it is a fine example of a Victorian era school building on the main road into Pembroke Dock. It is a pity developers don’t think to incorporate some of the old buildings into the new.

“Llanion holds many happy memories for us of assemblies, sports days, concerts, good friends, wonderful teachers and ‘outdated’ teaching methods that don’t seem to have held us back in our careers.

“Many thanks to The Cove at Llanion for catering for us.”

Those meeting up were: Elizabeth Greenslade (nee Owen), Julie Taylor (nee Spicer), Maggie Heginbothom (nee Shapcott), Huw Richards, John Norris, Peter Clegg, Jonathan Main, Steve Culliford, and retired teacher Keith James.
