LAMPHEY Primary School’s Year 6 pupils were recently treated to a marvellous afternoon of literature and real-life experiences on Everest by film-maker and writer Matt Dickinson.
The pupils have been studying Everest as part of their geographical work and they were thrilled to hear about Matt’s experience on this famous mountain.
His passion for climbing and adventure inspired the children, who were able to question him on a wide range of issues.
With his partner, Ruth Eastham, Matt guided the children in writing effectively.
Mrs Thomas and her class thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, which ended with an Everest cake baked by a pupil.
In other school news, the gymnastics squad represented Pembrokeshire at the recent Urdd National Championships in Aberystwyth.
The two teams, a trio of boys and a larger group of girls, performed exceptionally well and were a credit to the county and the school.
Headteacher Simon Thomas said: “I am very proud of their achievements on the floor, and it was clear that they had received excellent coaching from Jo Somers, Haverfordwest Gymnastics coach.
“Their behaviour and sportsmanship throughout the day was a credit to their parents and the county.”
