PEMBROKE’S Golden Grove School was well represented at the recent Urdd Rugby Festival in Tenby.

The girls’ team played in a TAG festival and put in convincing performances.

Before a close game with Tenby the team beat Pembroke Dock, Maenclochog and Bro Ingli. With a tie against Hafan Y Mor they went in to the final against a very strong Tenby team. The seaside team won by 5-4 in a thrilling game.

Sporting a new kit sponsored by Woodenbale, the boys too put in some excellent performances. Beating Beca, Roch, Narberth, Frenni and Glan Cleddau, they too succumbed to a strong Tenby team.

Head Teacher Andy Williams said: “The Urdd Rugby Festival was a wonderful experience for our teams, the girls and boys did themselves and the school proud.”

There was more sporting prowess on display at the Pembrokeshire Urdd football finals.

Narrowly missing out on a place in the all-Wales finals the girls’ team had convincing wins against Goodwick, Eglwyswrw and Maenclochog and Hafan Y Mor. A 1-0 loss against Solva put them in second place and just out of touch of the finals. It was a great contest which the girls thoroughly enjoyed.

It has not only been Golden Grove’s pupils enjoying the fruits of training and practice. The school’s very own Katie Jones took part in The London Marathon recently. Katie posted a commendable time of just 4hrs 10minutes for the gruelling 26.219 mile/ 42.195 kilometre race.
