A 19 METRE fishing vessel, with five people on board, was towed to safety on May 22 by Angle RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat, after fouling her propeller about eight miles south-west of the Smalls.

The Tamar class lifeboat, Mark Mason, was launched at 10.29 am, at the request of the UK Coastguard, and reached the vessel at 11.48am.

A tow was passed to the drifting vessel and a course was set for Milford Haven. At Milford, the fishing vessel was put into an alongside tow and berthed against the Fisherman’s Pontoon at 3.50pm.

With no more assistance required, the lifeboat was released to return to her station, where she was rehoused at 4.15pm, after nearly six hours at sea.

It was the first of two call-outs in two days for the all-weather lifeboat.

On Tuesday night (May 23), she was launched at 10.17pm, at the request of the UK Coastguard, to assist a 35 metre tall ship, which had steering issues at the entrance to the West Channel of the Milford Haven Waterway in nil visibility

A local pilot vessel was escorting the casualty, but had requested lifeboat assistance.

The lifeboat reached the scene in 15 minutes. The tall ship was then approaching Dale Roads with the intention of dropping anchor when at the anchorage.

Once the ship’s anchor was deployed and set, the lifeboat was released and returned to her station, where she was rehoused at 11.05pm.
