THE pain was worth every penny - all £500 plus - as Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre Volunteer John Mitchell braved a chest waxing in full public view to raise funds for the centre.

John, who recently turned 70, endured the pain and raised well over £500.

Family members and friends, including many members of the Volunteer Team, witnessed John’s fortitude as the waxing process was carried out, strip by strip, at the Centre by the expert hands of beautician Ally Doyle.

Also keeping a watching brief was the Heritage Centre ‘mascot’, ‘Pembroke Duck’, the costume donned on a very warm morning by fellow volunteer Mike Jones.

John’s sacrifice is just one of several special fundraising initiatives undertaken by the volunteer team this spring and which have already raised considerable funds for the Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust, which runs the Heritage Centre in the former Royal Dockyard Chapel.

Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre, run by the Sunderland Trust, is a registered charity. Located in the Royal Dockyard Chapel, it is open Mondays to Saturdays, 10am-4pm.
