PEMBROKE Dock Community School has been putting its pupils’ artistic skills to the test with a large mural-style artwork to promote important messages about anti-bullying.

The work, which has been commissioned as part of Welsh Government’s ongoing anti-bullying campaign, is being used to encourage pupils to collaborate and colour the design in together. Once complete, the school will be able to display the artwork as a reminder to its pupils of their team work creating the final product.

Bullying affects thousands of children in Wales. As part of a broader programme of work, the Welsh Government is tackling the issue by promoting the message that Bullying is Everyone’s Business.

Incorporated into Pembroke Dock Community School’s art lessons, pupils got stuck into colouring the mural while teachers from the school were able to emphasise the importance of cooperation and team work to the group.

Head teacher Michele Thomas said: “We’ve loved seeing our pupils engage with this activity and its clear they’ve enjoyed colouring the mural in and working together to do so. It’s allowed us to share important messages with our young people about bullying and make them more aware of the issue. It’s been wonderful being part of this Welsh Government project.”

As part of the ongoing campaign, the Welsh Government is encouraging schools across Pembrokeshire and the rest of Wales to make bullying everyone’s business, using creative initiatives to engage young people in learning about the impact of bullying on someone’s life.
