PARENTS and family members gathered at Pembroke’s Golden Grove School recently for the Annual Foundation Phase and Key Stage Two Sports.

The Foundation Phase Sports were run with precision by the staff with pupils competing in running, egg and spoon and skipping and walking backwards races.

Under the starters orders of Miss Harding the pupils dashed and in some cases tumbled down the tracks to the applause of those watching.

After a splendid afternoon of sports it was Swans House that took honours. The presentation was delayed as a group of parents and family members took to the field for the hotly-contested parents’ race, a great spectacle to round off a great afternoon of sports, rivalry and competition.

The following day it was the turn of the Key Stage Two pupils to battle for the school shield.

Once again the spectator areas were full to capacity as pupils from years 3, 4, 5 and 6 competed for wins in running, egg and spoon and skipping and finally a well-run and closely-fought relay race.

As the scores were being tallied, it was once again the turn of parents and family members to compete, again with great spirit and determination. The announcement of the house placing was quiet until the runner-up position was announced; Swans House was the winner and celebrated with loud cheers and applause for the other teams.

Head Teacher Andy Williams said: “We had two great afternoons of sport, there were some excellent performances from all the year groups and all the participants took part with great courage and positivity. The games were run in the true spirit of sports.”
