PEMBROKE Town Council is to discuss proposals to develop the town’s South Quay, recently considered at County Hall.

The town council’s public meeting takes place this Thursday, July 13, at Pembroke Town Hall, from 6.30pm, and senior officers will be attending.

In late June, Pembrokeshire County Council’s Cabinet agreed to continue engaging with the market in the hope of producing a viable development opportunity on the site.

It was decided to test whether the inclusion of additional land, namely the South Quay car park, the boat house, the public conveniences and land to the west of the current site between it and the castle, would enhance the viability of the site and allow a development to finally go ahead.

It has been stressed they will only be considered if it aids the viability of the scheme in any land sale.

The council has stated it would not do so without imposing conditions, nor without proper consultation with the town council and other key stakeholders.

A statement from Pembrokeshire County Council read: “The administration’s sole aim is to ensure that these near derelict buildings in the centre of Pembroke are brought back into use, make a positive contribution to the street scene and enhance, rather than detract as currently, from the magnificent views of Pembroke Castle.”

Responses from the marketing exercise are to be received by October 30, following which there will be an update report to Cabinet. The update report will be a public document, available on the council’s website. In addition, the Cabinet meeting itself is open to the public and webcast online.
