AIR Ambulance Wales was the chosen charity to benefit from Pembroke Soup’s December event at Pembroke Town Hall last Saturday.

Usually, representatives from four organisations make a four-minute presentation promoting their group activities. Then, while enjoying a complimentary bowl of soup, the audience are invited to vote for their preferred group and the Entry fees of £4 distributed proportionately.

At the December meeting a single organisation makes a presentation and receives all the entry fees.

This year there was a truly inspiring talk by Tony Key MBE of Air Ambulance Wales.

He made the point that, by being there that day, all present had made a small contribution that might possibly save a life. The annual cost for the four air ambulances is £6.5 million; every penny of which is raised from voluntary contributions.

The ‘Soup’ event raised £160 directly, plus contributions from individuals. In addition, Cllr Dennis Evans and Mrs Rita Evans raised even more from their stall selling Air Ambulance gifts and Christmas cards.

‘Soup’ organiser Joan Marsh also invited the other 20 organisations/individuals who had made a presentation this year to display their wares and remind people of what they have to offer the Community. Thirteen were able to do so while the other seven made their apologies due to prior commitments.

The next Pembroke Soup meeting is on Saturday February 24, just before St David’s Day. This one will be a little more ambitious than usual with an opportunity to practice, or just watch, welsh folk dancing; children’s clog dancing, together with harp music from Jess Ward.

Also, as usual, Joan is looking for four people/organisations who would like to promote their activities with a four-minute talk.
