A GIRLGUIDING leader has been recognised for her work with young people by being presented with St Davids City Council’s Community Award for 2013.

Each year the council invites people to nominate members of the community whose work or service deserves to be recognised.

Earlier this month the award was presented to Rhian Silverstone, who leads the rainbows and brownies in St Davids.

She said she was surprised and delighted to be nominated.

“I have been involved in guiding since I was seven, when I joined the brownies. I then went on to be a guide, a young leader and have now been a leader for eleven years.

"I am part of a fabulous team in St Davids. We meet in Ysgol Bro Dewi and currently have 16 rainbows and 28 brownies. Volunteering is really rewarding.

“Being a part of guiding is a fantastic girl-only space which offers the girls a chance to experience a wide variety of activities and opportunities."

The Mayor of St Davids, Councillor Glenys James said: “We wish to formally recognise the work that Rhian has undertaken for the community, in particular for her commitment to the rainbows, brownies and guides.

“Her dedication and enthusiasm in organising the weekly sessions, activities and trips is greatly appreciated throughout the community.”
