DURING the past three months, the crew at St David’s fire station has been running a Young Firefighter scheme.
It involved nine local youngsters, aged between 13 and 15 years, attending the station once a week to learn basic firefighting skills.
Activities included hose running, ladder climbing, search and rescue techniques, as well as lessons about home fire safety and road safety.
The aim of the pilot course was to teach the youngsters life skills and enhance their self-esteem,
A pass out parade took place on March 9, during which the youngsters showed off their newly acquired skills to their family and friends.
They were presented with their certificates by the Mayor of St Davids, Councillor Glenys James.
Also in attendance were station manager David Swan, and Deputy County Commander, Cllr Wynne Evans, chairman of the resource committee on the Fire Authority.
