PLANS to site a wind turbine near Pen y Cwm were unanimously backed by councillors last week.

The application by William Harries came before Pembrokeshire’s planning committee on Tuesday, March 11.

It sought permission to build a 34.5 metre wind turbine at Maerdy Farm, which is approximately 2.25km to the north west of the village.

Planning officers recommended that the proposal be approved subject to conditions, including noise management.

Planning Policy Wales states the committee’s planning decision should: “Support the need to tackle the causes of climate change by moving towards a low carbon economy. This includes facilitating development that reduces emissions of greenhouse gases in a suitable manner, provides for renewable and low carbon energy sources at all scales and facilitates low and zero carbon developments.”

The application raised no objections from statutory consultees, and no letters of representation received from members of the public.

Councillor David Pugh said it was very pleasing to see the application come before them.

“There are no objections and it has the support of Brawdy Community Council. Therefore I have no hesitation in moving for approval,” he said.

His motion was seconded by Cllr Daphne Bush.

Cllr Peter Stock said: “The location is right and the area is well screened. It will not impact on tourism.”
