A GROUP of talented actors from Solva will be hoping to break a leg this Friday (June 6).

Solva Amateur Dramatic Society (SADS) will be competing in the Wales Final Festival of One-Act Plays at The Congress Theatre in Cwmbran.

The group will be representing Pembrokeshire after winning the Pembrokeshire round of the One Act Play Festival at the Torch Theatre on May 3.

SADS beat entries from Cardigan Theatre, Clarbeston Road Players and Johnston Country Players to win best play with ‘Something to Celebrate’.

Written by Solva resident Fran Barker, the play was performed by Amanda Canby-Lewis who won best actress, Alan Yorke (best actor), Jackie Young (best supporting actress) and David Swan (best supporting actor).

The crew was made up of Fran Barker and Brenda Lloyd as production managers, Brenda on wardrobe, Peter Wilde on light and sound assisted by Alfie Cooper-Tenain, Peter Thair on set design and Rebecca Wright working tirelessly back stage.

SADS performed the play in Solva Memorial Hall on Monday night as a warm up for Friday’s final.

Last year SADS won the Wales final and travelled to Ireland to compete for the UK’s premier amateur drama award in the 80th annual British Final Festival of One-Act Plays.

The society’s production of Stephen Bean’s comedy A Little Box of Oblivion was up against the regional winners from England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Under the direction of Roly Waters and Brenda Lloyd, their performance received rave reviews from the adjudicators and earned them the coveted audience award.

SADS was only established in 2009 and over the past five years has grown from five members to more than 50, with ages ranging from eight to 80.
