Mathry WI

The April meeting of Mathry WI, held in the community hall, was chaired by president, Gaynor Edwards.

The guest speaker was Susan Meister from the WRVS, an organization which responds to community needs as well as supporting the emergency services when specific crises arise. She explained the WRVS Befriending Scheme which is designed to promote the independence of people living alone and to improve their quality of life.

Delsie, Susan and Mary were thanked for representing Mathry WI last month at the 90th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service at Tabernacle Church, Haverfordwest.

Members enjoyed their participation in “Anything Goes” and watched a CD of their performance later.

Jill Kane was presented with a tea set in appreciation of the many years she collected tokens to help Yorkshire Tea’s charity “Trees for Africa.” Yorkshire Tea has also recognised her achievement.

Arrangements for the Summer events were finalised. A summer picnic will be held at Llys y Fran, and visits made to Colby Woodland Gardens and the Quilt Museum in Lampeter.

Members agreed to make a donation of £50 towards the royal wedding tea to be held by Mathry Parish.

Jill Kane won the competition for the prettiest spring flower. At the next meeting on May 10th voting for the Resolutions will be followed by a social evening and a supper. Meetings are held at 7.30pm on the second Tuesday of the month, new members are welcome.
