Coastal adventure for pupils

YSGOL DEWI Sant pupils have been making a splash with TYF Adventure, St Davids.

Students have been given the opportunity through Sport Pembrokeshire’s 5x60 scheme to take part in coasteering sessions Twice a week after school, the pupils go to TYF where they are kitted out and then walk with the centre’s instructors to St Nons for the coasteering.

The aim is to get the children active and to enjoy the Pembrokeshire coastline and encourage a sustainable way of protecting the planet.

More than 20 pupils signed up to take part in the first of the six sessions.

Ross Beese, adventure manager at TYF, said: “TYF Adventure in St Davids are celebrating their 25th year this year and have always been passionate about getting people active in the outdoors.

“Reconnecting kids to nature, ensuring they have fun while staying fit is why we exist.

“We are delighted to be working with pupils from Ysgol Dewi Saint as part of Sport Wales’ 5x60 scheme, which is delivered through Sport Pembrokeshire.

“5x60 aims to get more young people than ever before more active, more often.”

He added: “TYF will be helping local kids lead healthy lives whilst enjoying the stunning Pembrokeshire coastline.”

The 5x60 project is organised by Sport Pembrokeshire – the sports development arm of Pembrokeshire County Council – with the aim of encouraging secondary pupils to take part in extra-curricular activities, while getting fit at the same time.
