AN amateur radio group has made history - and in the centenary year of the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB).

Pembrokeshire Amateur Radio Contest Group was formed just three years ago by a small group of radio enthusiasts.

Operating near Manorbier, the group achieved great success earlier this year by winning the RSGB’s prestigious VHF radio field day contest – the first winners from Wales in more than 40 years and the highest score ever achieved by a station located in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.

Formed in 1913, during the early pioneering years of wireless communication, the RSGB has represented the interests of radio amateurs nationally and internationally for 100 years.

The Pembrokeshire group recently attended a national radio convention near Milton Keynes, where they were presented with a trophy by RSGB president Dr Bob Whelan.

Amateur radio provides much enjoyment for enthusiasts of all ages. For more information on joining the group, email gw3xjq@gmail.com.
