A 22 YEAR-OLD from Tenby with outstanding fines of £2,075 appeared before Haverfordwest Magistrates Court last week to face driving-related offences.

Unemployed Tee-Jay Cumberland, of Knowling Mead, pleaded guilty to driving a Ford Mondeo without insurance. He also admitted two charges of driving a Vauxhall Corsa with insufficient tread on two of its tyres.

“Cumberland was unable to prove he was insured on the Ford Mondeo,” said prosecutor Ellie Morgan. “On another date, an officer examined a Vauxhall Corsa used by him and found two defective tyres.

“The defendant already has 12 penalty points on his licence,” she added. “Last time he was in court he made an agreement with the Magistrates not to be disqualified, because of his job.”

Defending himself, Cumberland said he had recently bought the Ford Mondeo when he got “pulled” by police.

“I didn’t have any idea. I went to the chippy and I was pulled by the police,” Cumberland explained. “They said I didn’t have insurance and I didn’t have a clue. I thought I was insured on the car trader’s policy.

“The Corsa was being taken to the scrapyard. I was caught at the top of the lane going down there.”

Magistrates put six penalty points on Cumberland’s licence, which led to him being automatically disqualified from driving for six months as a “totter”.

They also fined him £185, and ordered him to pay costs of £120 and a victim surcharge of £20.
