FEARS that a new micro-brewery in Saundersfoot could turn into a pub have been allayed by assurances given to Pembrokeshire county councillors.

A premises licence for the Pembrokeshire Brewing Company has now been granted by the authority’s licensing sub-committee after a modification of the plan by applicant Daryl Flannery.

These include the removal of office and beer garden from the licensed area, no games room at the premises, no inclusion of the requested condition for internet sales and opening hours from 10am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and noon until 6pm on Sunday.

The sub-committee was assured that the premises - Saundersfoot's old school on The Ridgeway - are not intended to be run as a pub; that the maximum capacity of the premises is 40 people; that there is adequate parking and that the number of tasters purchased by customers was limited to a maximum of three half-pint measures per person.

It was also confirmed that no wine or spirits would be sold or supplied, and that suitable signs would be placed on the premises warning of the dangers or driving under the influence of alcohol.

Announcing the decision, the sub-committee said it hoped that the applicant would ‘endeavour to work with the local residents on any issues that arise’.
