CRUCIAL trial activity, which will result in visible smoke, is currently due to be taking place at the MOD Pendine Range.

It was expected to begin yesterday (Tuesday) and will continue today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday).

As a courtesy, the range has informed the residents of both Pendine and Ferryside and notified Carmarthenshire County Council, St Ishmaels Community Council, Carmarthenshire; and the local police, coastguard and fire service.

The range at Pendine is managed by QinetiQ on behalf of the MOD under the terms of a Long Term Partnering Agreement (LTPA), which delivers test, evaluation and training support services to the UK MOD and its allies.

A FTSE250 company, QinetiQ uses its domain knowledge to provide technical support and know-how to customers in the global aerospace, defence and security markets. QinetiQ's unique position enables it to be a trusted partner to government organisations, predominantly in the UK and the US, including defence departments, intelligence services and security agencies.

A spokesman for the range said: “QinetiQ apologises in advance for any concern caused by the smoke.”
