PLANNING permission has been granted to build 10 houses on the site of the old Cottage Hospital in Tenby.

The application, from Mr M. Thomas, came before the National Park’s development management committee last Wednesday (May 27).

It sought permission for the construction of 10 new properties, to include four starter homes, five downsizer homes and one for a family with older children.

They will be set out in two short terraces, together with a single detached dwelling at the entrance to the new row, and their design has taken reference from the surrounding properties.

The application site is located off Trafalgar Road and from the 1880s until eight years ago was home to the original Tenby Cottage Hospital. The site has been empty and fenced off ever since the building's demolition..

Tenby resident Mark Williams, who lives by the site, spoke at Wednesday’s meeting. He said he was not against the development, but raised concerns over parking in the area.

He said one space per house was not enough, as most families have two cars.

Councillor Lyn Jenkins agreed. She said: “I know how many arguments parking can cause, and this concern must be taken seriously.”

Councillor Rob Lewis asked if it was possible to create more parking by losing some of the green space, but officers said they had to strike a balance to ensure a high quality scheme.

Tenby County Councillor Mike Evans welcomed the application.

He said: “The architect has done a great job and I’m very happy with the design.”

Committee members voted unanimously to delegate the final decision of planning permission to the chief executive of the National Park, subject to appropriate conditions.
