A Pentlepoir lady who has successfully been treated for cancer and whose loved ones are currently battling the disease, is rallying women to join her in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life in Haverfordwest.

Margaret Thompson, aged 68, underwent surgery and chemotherapy after being diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2009.

She is now preparing to take part in her seventh Race for Life at Scolton Manor on Sunday, June 21 at 11am.

Although Margaret will be celebrating her recovery, she will also be walking the 5k route in honour of her brother who has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and others close to her heart.

Margaret said: “We’ve been hit hard in our family and I do not want to see other families go through the same. To be treated myself is one thing but to have to watch those I love also battle this dreadful disease is another.

“Research saves lives and it’s crucial we continue to keep research going so more families can stay together for longer.”

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring women-only series of 5k events which raises millions of pounds every year to help beat 200 different types of cancer.

Money raised through Race for Life allows Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists to advance research which is helping to save the lives of men, women and children across Wales.

One of those nurses is Catherine McPhee who is based at Withybush Hospital and will be helping at Haverfordwest Race for Life this year supporting all the inspirational ladies taking part.
