TENBY Leisure Centre worker Dan Mumford is approaching the finishing line of his unique running challenge.

As 2015 comes to an end, so too does Dan’s aim to mark the year by running 2,015 miles for charity.

The 31-year-old duty officer at the leisure centre is totting up the mileage in a series of gruelling distance events spread across the course of the year with less than 700 miles left to complete.

After last weekend’s Ealing Half Marathon he will embark on the Cardiff Half Marathon this Sunday.

“It’s good to see the end in sight but I still have some miles to go,” said Dan who is running in aid of local mental health charity, Pembrokeshire Mind.

“After Cardiff I have to knuckle down to some Ultra Marathon training in preparation for another long distance event before the end of the year.

“It’s been pretty gruelling and I would not have been able to do it without the support of family and friends.”

He has also been sponsored with a car and fuel by local Vauxhall dealer, W P Lewis & Son, to enable him to travel to and from London last weekend.

Dan, who lives in Carew, suffered from depression two years ago. He said running had helped him with his own health problems and he wanted to spread the message about how beneficial it could be.

“I run for my own mental health and its part of the reason why I have embarked on this project,” he said. “I also want to encourage others to get active.”

His 2015 project has the backing of Pembrokeshire Leisure - Pembrokeshire County Council’s leisure service - which has put up posters and collection boxes in leisure centres across the county.
