GARAGES from all over Pembrokeshire have taken their fundraising for the BBC Children in Need appeal up a gear.

A total of 40 teams entered this year’s Bumper to Bumper/Kilgetty Motor Factors Karting Grand Prix to raise nearly £5,800.

The event was hosted by the West Wales Karting Centre, which saw some keen challenges as the teams raced against each other over a two-week period in a bid to lift the coveted winner’s trophy.

The final took place on Friday November 13 to coincide with the televised appeal.

The Grand Prix was organised by Kilgetty Motor Factors sales rep John Harries, who challenged all the competitors to beat last year’s grand total of £5,500. The teams rose to this magnificently, resulting in the grand total of £5,785.87 being raised.

Kilgetty Motor Factors’ managing director, Alan Holt, said he was delighted with all the effort made by the organising team, including the West Wales Karting Centre.

He thanked the garages who took part and their sponsors.

This year’s final was sponsored by APEC Braking with Tetrosyl/Carplan generously donating three bikes which were raffled off on the finals night.

This year’s trophy winners were once again KP Thomas & Son of Templeton, with Goodwick Motor Services making it an exciting final by coming home just seven seconds behind.

The trophy for the fastest lap of the entire event went to Daniel Thomas of KP Thomas & Son with a time of 23.680 and the trophy for best driver was awarded to Tess from West Wales Karting ladies’ team.

Guy Allum from Narberth Tool Hire was the highest single fundraiser, with £170, while the Kilgetty Motor Factors team raised £522 which gave them a wild card into the final.

Plans are already in place for the 2016 Grand Prix, when it is hoped to raise £6,000.
