Llanddewi Velfrey On Sunday the village held its annual service of Remebrance in the village hall to pay respect for those that have laid down their lives in the two world wars and other conflicts that have occurred since. The service has been held annually since 1947 and was first initiated by Mr Dai Davies, Balaclava who served in the Second World War for over five years without any leave. The attendance has always been good and seems to be improving every year.

As usual Whitland Week starts the week with a concert at Tabernacle Congregational Chapel. As usual much of the programme is provided by the Whitland male Voice Choir under the direction of the conductress Juliet Rossiter with accompanist Hefina Jones. The audience have now come to expect a high standard and popular music and this year they were not disappointed.

CLASSIC MOTOR CLUB At the recent agm of Whitland Classic Motor Club , officers were elected as follow: chairman, Patrick Hayes; vice-chairman, Tony Brinsden; secretary/press officer, Ruth Platt; treasurer, Mark Davies; social secretaries, John and Liz Rees; membership secretary/photographer, Mike Platt; website admin, Thierry Seal. Jeff Court and Patrick Hayes were thanked for their donation of the club banner. Future runs are: July 17th, Picton Castle (meet North Road, 10.15am) and July 23rd, Fox's run (leave North Road 10am for Llanboidy), followed by stalls, activities and a barbeque in aid of the club's charity. There will also be raffles, with an Easter bonnet competition being judged at 3pm. To book a table, at £6, contact 01994 240053., COUNCIL'S COSTS Whitland Town Council has met with a gloomy response to its raffle to raise money to raise money for the town’s Christmas lights. The raffle brought in just £14, with the lighting bill standing at £6,000. The council also faces the costs this year of £3,349.01 for footway lighting and repairs to the CCTV of £1,059. The council feels that it is important to retain the CCTV as it help to monitor and keep safe the main street in Whitland.
